If you buy a Matter-certified light switch, it works with Apple Home, Google Home, and Alexa without extra setup. You do not need to replace everything for Matter - it is backwards compatible. Yes. Many reliable smart home devices use Zigbee or Z-Wave protocols. Lutron uses its own Clear Connect RF. We connect these through a compatible hub (Home Assistant, SmartThings, or a dedicated Zigbee/Z-Wave coordinator). Older does not mean obsolete - Z-Wave devices from 5-10 years ago still work and often run more reliably than Wi-Fi alternatives.

Z-Wave and Zigbee devices communicate directly through mesh networking. Voice commands through Alexa or Google require internet, but physical switches, schedules, and automations continue running.
